Alternating vertical stripes in Naples yellow, muted blue, and black create a steady rhythm across the canvas.
The strict geometry is softened by a deliberately loose, painterly application of paint, so that small variations along the edges and across the surface prevent the composition from appearing mechanically precise.
At the heart of the work is the interplay of geometry and color: the warm Naples yellow contrasts with the cooler off-white blue, while black introduces a strong tonal contrast and lends structure to the repeating sequence.
Rather than creating a fixed focal point, the arrangement allows the eye to wander evenly across the painting and perceive subtle shifts between repetition and difference. Unlike many of my works, KH#376 is painted on a standard, stretched canvas rather than on hand-primed linen.
The painted sides extend the work beyond the front.
